Y5 children experienced Samba drumming as part of their super starter to the topic What is it like in the Amazon?
The children found out that Samba band is made up of several drums, shakers, claves and guiros. They learnt several rhythms involving a main theme, call, response and call, copy.
The children were taken to the Amazon with their music and were able to image distant sounds, that might have been heard from the crashed plane in our text The Explorer.
The children have written a diary entry from the viewpoint of the main character Fred, and have considered the vocabulary choices used in the text by Rundell.
In maths the children have been working with roman numerals. This has included writing, rounding, and solving problems involving them.
