In Year 2 we are learning about...
Week commencing 08.01.18
This week children have been introduced to Traditional Tales. They have listened to a variety of stories and answered questions to develop their reading and understanding. They have moved from multiplication to division and enjoyed solving practical problems by sharing and grouping. In Science, children have reviewed what they already know about plants and learnt about the function of each part of a plant. They are beginning to understand what a sculpture is in Art by exploring different pictures and discussing them. Finally, children have enjoyed learning about how food was sold in history. They compared old and new supermarkets and designed their own old fashioned shop front.

This week Year 2 have started their new unit in Literacy about The Polar Express. We read the story in a snowy imagination studio and children even got to hold a bell from Santa's sleigh!

Welcome back to our second half term in Year 2! We have had 4 days filled with learning and fun. We celebrated Halloween with costumes, games and crafts. We also began the season of winter with beautiful acrostic poetry inspired by images in our Imagination Studio.

This week all the children have been busy getting to know their new class teachers. They have settled very quickly in their year groups and back into routine. All ready for a busy and fun term!

In music we have composed our own 'body percussion' pieces that we then combined to make a whole class performance. During computing, we have been working on coding, thinking about how we can use algorithms (instructions) to make something move in a certain way.

We have been concentrating on our music skills this term in Year 2 and we are really improving! We all had the chance to listen to some classical music this week as part of BBC Ten Pieces - the music was all so different. Some pieces made us feel scared while others filled us with excitement. We look forward to learning more about these famous songs later in the term.
Week Commencing 05.06.17
The final weeks in year 2 have started, and what a busy start it has been. 2F have had their final swimming session this week, all the children have loved their swimming lessons and have become much more confident in the water. 2F and 2T also kick-started their final topic 'Where does our food come from?' with a visit to Tesco to complete the Farm to Fork trail. We also carried out some taste testing in school....yummy!

Year 2 have carried on learning all about the Wonders of the World and this week got to create our own Mayan headdress inspired by Chichen Itza.
Week Commencing 24.04.17
It has been another brilliant week in Year 2. We have started our new topic all about the Seven Wonders of the World. It has been so exciting learning about some of the different wonders and where they are located. In maths we have started a new topic too, all about Volume. Some of us have had the chance to go to the imagination studio and on Friday we had our 100% attendance assembly.

The last week of term was so busy but we had such a fantastic time! Our parents had a chance to come into school and take part in some English and Maths activities with us, we also had a chance to look at MyMaths and think about how we can use it to work together at home. There were so many competitions in school too, like decorating an egg and the Easter Egg raffle. There were lots of winners in Year 2. Finally, we had 'WOW of the Term' to celebrate the hard work of all the children and also give some special awards to a child from each class, they were really pleased with their prizes.

We have had a wonderful week in Year 2, taking part in 'Wellbeing Week' events each day. We all had a chance to go to the Solardome and took part in a 'Relax Kids' session where we thought about ways to feel happy. On Thursday, we also had some visitors from Women's Aid and we talked about how the people around us look after us and care for us.
Week Commencing 13.03.17
Year 2 have been working so hard and really improving each day. We have just finished writing our recounts based around our day at the Safari Park, everyone certainly had a wonderful day. In maths, we have carried on learning about fractions. We are able to work with quarters, halves and even thirds! In topic, we have carried on learning about the great explorers. Finally, in science we are carrying out an experiment about the best conditions to grow cress seeds. Let's see what happens!

Year 2 have had a wonderful week back after half term. We have started our new topic all about Explorers and are getting ready for our visit to the Safari Park on Monday! We also celebrated World Book Day with lots of exciting activities and even got to work with some other teachers and hear about their favourite stories.
Week Commencing 13.02.17
WOW! This week Year 2 worked extremely hard but enjoyed innovating the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have all produced some fantastic pieces of extended writing using expanded noun phrases, similes and a range of punctuation. Well done Year 2!
Also, in Maths we have been using concrete objects to become familiar with a range of 2D and 3D shapes. We learnt their names and identified their different properties.
During Spring term 1 our topic was 'Where does food come from?'. We identified different countries on maps, the origins of some foods and learnt about food production. Children learnt that not all food comes from the United Kingdom, but some of it comes from abroad. Next term in History we will learn about 'Who were the greatest explorers?'
Week commencing 03.10.16
It has been another fantastic week in Year 2. This week we had some visiting speakers come to see us from Decca. They helped us to learn about how medicines can help us and how to spot things that aren't medicines. We then had a chance to talk about this in class and think about people who help us when we are poorly.

The hall was FULL with lots of chidlren and parents on Friday morning for the Macmillan Coffee Morning at Ryders Green. We all donated lots of cakes and raised so much money for charity. Look how busy the hall was!
