At Ryders Green Primary School Nursery we have an emphasis on learning through play. Both members of staff who work within the Nursery are experienced and dedicated to meeting the needs and interests of each child.
The curriculum that we deliver covers the seven areas of learning within the EYFS framework. Activities and learning takes place both inside and in the outdoor environment. We put a high level of emphasis on the Characteristics of Effective Learning. This is to ensure that each child meets their full potential, as well as developing their independence and love of learning that they will continue to develop as they move through school.
As part of each 3 hour session the children take part in short adult led activities. These session focus on RWI and Maths, as well as structured play and child initiated learning. The outside area and the learning that takes place there is very important to us and we spend as much time outside as is possible.
During the year we cover a range of themes but importantly we also try to follow the children’s interests. Staff develop and extend knowledge and understanding through questioning and discussions.
Assessments of individual learning are carried out by staff continuously and evidence is obtained through photographs, short written observations and long observations. These are then discussed between staff and stored in their individual learning journey books.
We also hold a number of ‘stay and play’ sessions and parent workshops throughout the year.
