Fire Service Visit

On Monday 31st October, West Midlands Fire Service visited school to give us some very important information. As there are lots of celebrations at the moment, such as Diwali and Bonfire Night, lots of us will be enjoying the fireworks. Although they are beautiful, they can also be very dangerous so they shared lots of information on how we can keep safe. Have a look at the videos on the link below to find out more infomation on how you can stay safe at this time of year.

Charlotte's Web - Theatre production

On Monday 18th October, the children in KS1 and KS2 had a very exciting experience when the theatre came to Ryders Green!

M&M put on a fantastic production of 'Charlotte's Web' for the children to enjoy. The cast did an incredible job of retelling the much-loved children's story about Wilbur and his friend Charlotte.

Following the production, the Year 6 children also had the opportunity to take part in some workshops led by the cast and after half term lots of children will be using the play and story in follow up work in English.

A WOW for attendance!

A fantastic weeks attendance here at Ryders Green.  Together we achieved 98%! A great improvement on the 95% achieved at this time last year (2015). Well done to all of the children!

Black History Month

Black History Month at Ryders Green

Black History Month is an international event celebrating, recognising and valuing international individuals and key events. During the month, we remember and celebrate the important people from the past and also those who help and contribute towards our societry today. The event was first celebrated in the UK in 1987 and now it is marked every year in October in the UK and in February in the USA.

Across the school, children will learn about some of the key people who have made a significant contribution to Black History, some of the key themes and have an opportunity to debate issues around Black History Month.

Please find below some website links should you wish to find out more about Black History Month, some of the themes discussed or key individuals that the children will be learning about.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

On Friday 30th September, we saw all the children, friends and families support a wonderful Macmillan Coffee Morning at Ryders Green. There was so much going on so please read below for a few highlights...

The 'wow'stopper challenge!

Children, and staff, were invited to take part in the 'wow'stopper challenge. The mission was to create their own showstopping design, this could be a cake they had baked, biscuits they had decorated or a whole tower of fairy cakes topped with icing! The decision was in the hands of the contestants! By 9am on Friday morning, the KS2 hall was FULL of incredible designs from children right the way across school, all the way from Nursery to Year 6. The winning creators of the winning designs were then taken to enjoy a VIP cake and coffee morning with the parents! How fantastic! Well done to all those involved.

Cake and coffee

Not only did we have lots of cakes from the 'wow'stopper challenge, but lots of the children also donated cakes for our cake and coffee sale. The families and friends of the children were invited into school to enjoy cake, tea and coffee whilst being entertained with singing from the children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. The KS1 hall was bursting due to the incredible turn out and everyone had a very enjoyable experience, whilst raising a lot of money at the same time!

Children's cake sale

Once the parents had eaten a LOT of cake, it was the children's turn. Class by class they entered the KS1 hall and continued to donate lots of money to charity, and enjoying a sweet treat in exchange! The cake sale went on all morning and even continued after school

The final total is still being calculated...but watch this space for the big announcement! Well done and thank you to everyone who supported us at this successful event. Take a look in the gallery at pictures from the morning.
