Roald Dahl Day 2016
Roald Dahl day was marked at Ryders Green with lots of exciting events and activities completed by all year groups in school. All of the children had the chance to hear their teachers favourite Roald Dahl stories and learn lots about this famous author.
"It was exciting listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I wish I could go inside."
"We got to read some of Matilda and compare it to the film, I think I prefer the book because I can make it up in my imagination."
"I made a disgusting beard just like the ones in The Twits! It even had rice-crispies in it!"
"I created my own character to go inside the chocolate factory, she would have been an extra character in the original book"
"I read Boy by Roald Dahl and used some of his language ideas in my own autobiography"
Ryders Green children open a Lidl Store!
On the 24th February 2016, four Year Six children with 100% attendance were chosen to open the new Lidl store. The children were the stars of the show as they cut the ribbon for the official opening of the Wednesbury store and even received their own bag of goodies.
Reception classes are closed today (Tuesday 8th March) due to heating issues. Mother's Day assembly to be re-arranged. Thankyou.
West Bromwich Albion Sports Celebration
On Thursday 10th December 2015 a group of children visited Portway Leisure Centre to take part in a sports celebration.
They met Baggie Bird, Alby and Santa.
Over the week the children at Ryders Green explored and took part in a variety of multicultural activites. The objective of the week was to give the children an insight into the lives and cultures of different children at our school.
The children were treated to a Bhangra dancing workshop and they had the opportunity to play the Indian 'dhol' drum. The different year groups did a variety of activities in class; they learnt about art from different cultures and thought about historical events that changed culture e.g. Remembrance Day and Martin Lurther King's Dream.
The children thoroughly enjoyed all of the opportunities that they had over the week and they learnt lots about each others' cultures.
Children In Need! Friday 13th November 2015
It was Children In Need on Friday 13th November.
We celebrated the day and raised over £500!
We wore our hero/champion costumes and took part in activities throughout the day. Some of the Pudsey activities included putting the penny on Pudsey and writing acrostic poems and raps.
We baked, iced and sold cakes and biscuits to raise money for this wonderful charity.
Year 5 in particular smelt amazing as the children were cooking and no fire alarms were set off!
In the afternoon KS2 had a Children In Need rap battle.

The children at Ryders Green are given the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons throughout the year as part of their PE lessons. The lessons take place at either Tipton Leisure Centre or West Bromwich Leisure Centre.
Please check out the PDF timetables to see when your child will be going swimming.
Folk Musicians - Live Music Week
Sandwell Live Music Week
Ryders Green were very excited when we took part in Live Music Week.
A group of folk musicians came to play for KS2. We got to hear where folk music originated and who played it. The band played some songs and we joined in singing and doing actions.

What an 'eggcellent' Easter egg decorating competition!
Well done to everyone that competed in the competition this year, we had a fantastic selection of entries. It was extremely difficult for the judge to choose the winners.

Here are the winners for each of the year groups:
On Friday 20th March 2015, a total solar eclipse occured across the far northern regions of Europe and the Artic. The eclipse’s longest duration of totality was 2 minutes and 46 seconds off the northern coast of the Faroe Islands. This was the last total solar eclipse in Europe for this decade. The next will happen on August 12th 2026.
From West Bromwich, the eclipse did not reach total phase but was visible as a partial solar eclipse with 92% coverage.
At Ryders Green we observed the solar eclipse as it happened and Heart FM reported from our school!
Have a look at our Solar Eclipse 2015 pictures for a closer look at what we did.
